Awein
My name's Awein Majak. I am a woman from South Sudan. I was born in Aweil in South Sudan. When I was two months old, my parents relocated to the north. When I was eight years old, my family relocated from Libya to Egypt and then to Yemen. I grew up in Yemen, completed high school when I was 17, and then resettled to the United States when I was 18. I attended a two-year community college before transferring to Iowa State University. I earned an undergraduate degree in biology and a master's degree in international relations. I got married at the age of 22. I have five children, ages 17 to 4. I currently work as a social worker and run an in-home childcare business.
Things are becoming increasingly expensive, such as groceries and medical expenditures. I needed to find ways to boost my income.
I learned about the Solidarity Microfinance program via a friend. I obtained my first loan from the program about two years ago, and it has been nothing short of a blessing!
The loan money has helped me to expand my childcare business and accommodate additional children. My income has doubled as a result of loan. The additional income has allowed my family to participate in more activities with the kids while also saving for potential emergencies. Also, the more the loan increases, the more I consider creating new businesses. My heartfelt gratitude to Solidarity Microfinance for making my dream to start a business achievable and come true.
